4 Days Serengeti Migration Safari: The Greatest Migration on Earth
Duration
Overview
The 4 Days Serengeti Migration Safari focuses on one of the most remarkable wildlife events on Earth, the Great Wildebeest Migration. Each year, more than a million wildebeest, accompanied by zebras and gazelles, move across the Serengeti ecosystem in search of fresh grazing.
This safari concentrates on the northern Serengeti during the migration season. Between June and September the famous Mara River crossings can occur, when large herds attempt to cross crocodile-filled waters while predators wait along the riverbanks. Between January and March the southern Serengeti hosts the calving season, when thousands of wildebeest calves are born across the plains.
In addition to the migration, the Serengeti supports large populations of lions, elephants, giraffes, leopards, buffalo, and many other species. The journey also includes the Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s most wildlife-rich environments.
Travel takes place in a private 4×4 safari vehicle with an experienced professional guide, allowing flexibility in wildlife viewing and photography opportunities.

Safari Itinerary
Day 1
Arusha or Moshi to Serengeti National Park
Your safari begins with a morning departure from Arusha or Moshi. The journey travels through the scenic landscapes of northern Tanzania toward Serengeti National Park. Along the way you pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area before entering the vast Serengeti plains.
Upon arrival in the park, the first game drive begins. The Serengeti’s open grasslands support large herds of herbivores and numerous predators. Depending on the season, you may encounter migrating wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, lions, and elephants.
The day concludes with arrival at your selected accommodation in the Serengeti.
Day 2
Full Day Game Drive in Northern Serengeti
Today is dedicated to exploring the northern Serengeti ecosystem, one of the key regions for observing the Great Wildebeest Migration during river crossing season.
Morning and afternoon game drives allow time to search for migration herds and other wildlife. The landscape includes rivers, open plains, and rocky kopjes that serve as lookout points for predators.
The Mara River area is particularly known for dramatic river crossings when wildebeest attempt to cross while crocodiles wait below the surface.
After a full day of wildlife viewing, return to the lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 3
Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
The morning begins with another game drive in the Serengeti, offering additional opportunities to observe wildlife activity.
Later, the journey continues toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The route passes through scenic highlands and Maasai grazing areas where traditional pastoral life continues.
An optional cultural visit to a Maasai village can be arranged to learn about traditional customs, lifestyle, and local culture.
Arrival in the Ngorongoro highlands is in the late afternoon, followed by dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 4
Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha or Moshi
After breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a wildlife viewing experience inside the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera.
The crater floor supports a high concentration of wildlife including lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, and numerous bird species. The area is also one of the best locations in Tanzania to see the endangered black rhinoceros.
Following the game drive and picnic lunch, the safari concludes with the return journey to Arusha or Moshi.
