5 Days Great Serengeti Migration Safari
Duration
Overview
The 5 Days Great Serengeti Migration Safari focuses on one of the most extraordinary wildlife events on Earth, the Great Wildebeest Migration. Each year more than one million wildebeest, accompanied by zebras and gazelles, move across the Serengeti ecosystem in search of fresh grazing.
This safari follows the migration movement across the Serengeti while also exploring the Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s most wildlife-dense conservation areas. The journey travels through diverse landscapes that include volcanic grasslands, open savannah, river systems, and rocky kopjes that serve as vantage points for predators.
During the migration season, massive herds attract some of Africa’s most iconic predators including lions, hyenas, cheetahs, and crocodiles. Depending on the time of year, travelers may witness dramatic river crossings in the northern Serengeti or calving season on the southern plains.
Travel takes place in a private 4×4 safari vehicle with a professional guide who tracks wildlife movement and explains the Serengeti ecosystem.

Safari Itinerary
Day 1
Arusha or Moshi to Central Serengeti National Park
Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Arusha or Moshi. The journey passes through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area before entering the vast plains of Serengeti National Park.
The drive offers opportunities to see wildlife along the route as the landscape gradually opens into the famous Serengeti savannah. A picnic lunch is taken during the journey before continuing with a game drive toward the central Serengeti region.
The central Serengeti is known for year-round wildlife activity and large predator populations. Lions, giraffes, elephants, and large herds of herbivores are frequently seen.
Dinner and overnight take place at your selected accommodation in the Serengeti.
Day 2
Central Serengeti to Northern Serengeti
After breakfast, travel north through the Serengeti ecosystem toward the northern circuit where migration herds are often found during the river crossing season.
Game drives along the way allow time to observe wildlife across changing landscapes. The northern Serengeti is known for the Mara River, where dramatic migration crossings occur as wildebeest attempt to reach fresh grazing.
Predators frequently gather near crossing points, creating intense wildlife interactions.
Dinner and overnight at your accommodation in the northern Serengeti.
Day 3
Full Day Game Drive in Northern Serengeti
Today is dedicated to exploring the northern Serengeti and the Mara River region.
Morning and afternoon game drives focus on locating migration herds and observing river crossing activity when conditions allow. During peak migration season large numbers of wildebeest gather along the riverbanks before attempting to cross.
The area also supports resident wildlife including lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and numerous bird species.
After a full day of wildlife viewing return to the lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 4
Northern Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Following a morning game drive in the Serengeti, begin the journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
The route passes through scenic highland landscapes and Maasai grazing areas. The Ngorongoro region offers panoramic views across the volcanic caldera.
Arrival in the late afternoon allows time to relax at the lodge while overlooking the surrounding landscapes.
Dinner and overnight take place near the Ngorongoro Crater.
Day 5
Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha or Moshi
After breakfast, descend approximately 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater for a wildlife viewing experience inside one of Africa’s most unique ecosystems.
The crater floor supports a dense concentration of wildlife including buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, elephants, and predators such as lions and hyenas. The area is also one of the best places in Tanzania to see the endangered black rhinoceros.
After the game drive and picnic lunch on the crater floor, the safari concludes with the return journey to Arusha or Moshi.
