The Cemetery of Polish War Refugees Tour offers a historical and educational experience that explores a lesser-known chapter of World War II history in Tanzania. Located near Arusha, this site tells the story of Polish refugees who were displaced during the war and later resettled in East Africa between 1942 and 1952.

Following the outbreak of World War II and subsequent occupations in Eastern Europe, thousands of Polish civilians were deported to labor camps in the Soviet Union. After political changes during the war, many of these displaced communities were released and relocated through Iran and South Asia before being transferred to refugee settlements in East Africa. One such settlement was established near Arusha, where Polish refugees lived for several years under British administration.

During their time in Tanzania, the refugee community became involved in agriculture and livestock farming, taking advantage of the fertile land and favorable climate of the region. Their settlement developed into a self-sustaining community with schools, farms, and places of worship.

The tour visits the Polish and Jewish cemetery, which is carefully maintained and supported by the Polish Embassy. The site contains approximately 179 graves representing Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Jewish traditions. Informational displays and photographs provide historical context and personal stories, offering insight into the lives, hardships, and resilience of the refugee community.
